The gravitational field around a mass exists at every point in space. When a particle of mass m is placed at a point where the gravitational field (g), has certain value then we can say that the particle is experiencing a force (= mg). In other words, the field exerts a force on the particle. Hence the gravitational field (g)
is given by,
It can further be simplified and thus gives:

Modern Developments in Gravitation:
The modern developments in gravitation are as follows:
(1) Gravitational lensing is the phenomenon through which the light rays can be focused at a
point. This is the corresponding gravitational effect as that of optics.
(2) Gravitational waves have been detected in between a pair of stars.
(3) Knowledge and awareness about black holes to advance research in this direction are the
part of modern developments.
